The 3rd annual Lafayette Scrabble Tournament was a F A N T A S T I C ( 14 Points) S U C C E S S ( 11 points)
Thank you to all the teachers, teams and supporters who came out to the Lafayette Auction Party’s 3rd Annual Scrabble Tournament hosted by Libbey Sheldon and Chris Merriam, Maura and Chris Rogan, Katie and Packy Kennelly and Jenny Backus and Ed Pagano.
Nine teams made up of 2nd through 5th graders and a nice selection of grandparents, older brothers and parents competed for three exciting rounds of Scrabble. Guests feasted on pizza and handmade Scrabble iced cookies from Katie Kennelly. Year One winner and Lafayette Alumni Sammy Taubman ( who is on his way to his second National School Scrabble Tournament representing Deal) served as our Master of Ceremonies and Judge for the evening with help from Lafayette Scrabble Club founders Kathy Echave and Blake Yedwab. Four teams battled their way into the finals and when the dust settled, the home team of Jack Pagano and Jenny Backus emerged victorious, followed in second place by last year’s winner Stacy Beck and Will Haray, Eddy Hoover and his Grandmother Barbara in third place, and Maura and Michael Rogan in fourth place. Special kudos go out to our two youngest players Katie Boyle and Walt Bernstein for their excellent play. The Bernstein team came in 5th which is quite impressive for rookies!
