Lafayette’s Student Council gives students an opportunity to learn the benefits and responsibilities that come with a leadership role in the student community.

The council is open to students in grades 3 through 5 and elections are held in late October or early November each year. After hearing speeches from all the candidates, students from grades 3-5 vote for officers and representatives.

Class representatives include one boy and one girl (plus two alternates) from each class in grades 3-5. The officers and representatives attend a monthly meeting, vote on council ideas, and help plan the winter dance. Representatives also help with recycling projects and fundraisers such as Box Tops for Education.
