Message from Dr. B

Dear Lafayette Families,

As you know, winter break is scheduled to begin on Thursday, December 23.  If your child will be absent this week, please don’t forget to send an email to  with the reason for the absence.

Yesterday, Mayor Bowser announced a citywide action plan with several DCPS impacts that I want to share with you:

    • To ensure appropriate time for testing, DCPS is adjusting the school calendar.  Monday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 4 will now be non-instructional days for students. This means there will be no classes for students, and staff and families will use those days to pick-up rapid antigen tests.
    • Each school will receive a shipment of rapid antigen tests so that every student and staff member may be tested in support of a safe return from winter break. DCPS will share more details about how to access those tests before the end of the year.
    • Families should currently plan for schools to reopen on Wednesday, January 5.

Please continue to keep safe. Please continue to always wear your mask around those outside your household and maintain social distancing to the greatest extent possible.

Here’s to a fantastic new year!!!  Come on 2022!!!!

Dr. B
