Babysitting for a Cause
My 13 year-old daughter Natalie and her friend are raising money to help pay for scholarships for girls who attend a high school in Kenya called Starehe Girls' Centre. The former director of the school is related to our family, and the money will go directly to the students. The girls have funded three full scholarships as of now and are working on more. You may have seen them running a smoothie stand at BBM last summer; now they are mainly raising funds by babysitting on weekends and early weeknight evenings. They’ve been doing it for a while and even have references now! All are Red Cross CPR certified. Email me at jenniferlanoff@me.com if you need a sitter or Natalie at nwise65@gmail.com.

Tennis at Lafayette Park – Lafayette Flex Tennis (LFT) and Lafayette Afterschool Tennis (LAT).
Both programs will be delivered by the same staff of the Lafayette Tennis Association consisting of Paul Rosenbaum, Sydney Butler, Erin Rosebar and others.
LFT Flex classes will be offered through the Flex Academy program with class on Monday-Thursday at 3:30 just for Lafayette Elementary School students will start the coming Monday, September 25. Most of the Flex tennis classes are full with wait lists except for a couple of the classes for Grades 3-5. If you cannot get your child into a Flex tennis class, you can still sign them up for a LAT. Registration fees for the LAT classes will be prorated to the new start date.

LAT classes will be offered to Lafayette students and boys and girls (ages 4.5-14) from other schools in the area including Murch, Janney, Blessed Sacrament, Lowell, GDS, Sidwell, Rochambeau French School and others. These one hour tennis classes meet on Friday at 3:30 and 4:30 and on Monday through Thursday at 4:30 and 5:30. Go to www.LafayetteTennis.org to get space availability, the registration form and payment information. LAT classes run for 9 weeks from September 25 through November 3rd. LAT classes must end earlier because Daylight Savings Time on November 4 causes a loss of sunlight on the tennis courts for the 4:30 and 5:30 classes.

If you have any questions about either of these tennis programs, please contact Paul Rosenbaum at 202 441-0925 or rosenbaumpaul@msn.com.

Adult Tennis – Now that the kids are back in school, parents and caregivers can start playing again during the day. We have 9:15 and 10:30 morning classes for adults ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced. Check www.LafayetteTennis.org for availability and schedules. We also have 6:30PM classes for 9-5 working parents.
