Announcing Camp Command Performance: A Fun New Theater Arts Camp at Alice Deal

Looking for a fun, creative and affordable summer camp that will help your rising middle-schooler get ready to try out and take part in productions in middle school? Look no further than Camp Command Performance. A new theater arts camp opening at Alice Deal Middle School for two weeks July 8 and July 15.

Expand your vocal performance skills and develop your dramatic technique by immersing yourself in one, or both, of these two high-energy programs that will allow young actors (rising 6th, 7th and 8th grade students) to learn and hone basic techniques of acting and singing for the stage through voice, movement, improvisation and physical comedy.

Created by Deal parents who have worked in drama and the creative arts for years, and emphasizing spontaneity, imagination, self-confidence as well as the spirit of being part of an ensemble, Camp Command Performance is perfect for both first time actors and experienced drama stars.

Camp is in the Deal Auditorium and runs from 9 to 3 PM Monday through Thursday and from 9 am to 6 pm each Friday when students will perform for parents, friends and family. You can sign up for just one or both weeks. But hurry - spots are limited.

Enroll and pay online

Week 1 – July 8-12, 9 am to 3 pm- Sharpen Your Shakespeare Skills

$300/week

Dive into the world of history’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare in our first week of camp. We’ll focus on the themes of love, jealousy and transformation in Midsummer Night's Dream. Over the course of this week long intensive you will learn to:

Analyze the Bard’s plays using close textual analysis to understand what he is saying and why he uses certain words and phrases
Use voice, movement and improvisation to bring his memorable characters to life
Work together to transform Alice Deal’s auditorium into unforgettable Shakespearean scenes

Week 2 – July 15-19, 9 am to 3 pm - Experience the Magic of Musical Theater

$300/week

Funny, heartbreaking, and refreshingly honest, A Chorus Line is an insightful portrait of anonymous, interchangeable dancers vying for the same eight roles in an upcoming musical on Broadway. Over the course of this week long intensive you will learn key scenes and musical numbers from the show, and:

Scene study exercises to help to develop your storytelling skills
Vocal methods (and magic tricks) for the stage
Techniques to help actors create characters, interact in front of an audience, and think on their feet
