A Note from Dr. B

Dear Lafayette Families –

Thank you to everyone for your support and love during Teacher and Staff Appreciation week. Monday started off on a sweet foot with more baked goods and treats than you can possibly imagine! We always appreciate your support, but this week is always a highlight of the spring.

Thanks also to the 621 students who have already enrolled or re-enrolled! We only have 300 more to go!!!! Our goal is May 10th – THAT’S FRIDAY! Please bring in your enrollment paperwork in the next 4 days. We need everyone’s assistance to achieve this goal.

This week we also start our first of three Arts Nights. This Thursday, 5/9 our Pre-K and Kindergarten students will have our annual celebration of art and music during which every child in the school will have a chance to perform on stage, and when every student in school will have a piece of artwork on display. Additionally, our annual literary anthology, IMAGES will be on sale. This publication features a piece of illustrated writing from every child at Lafayette.

Here are logistics for Pre-K and Kindergarten students/families:

The Pre-K/Kindergarten Arts Night will be on Thursday, May 9th.
The event runs from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Pre-K students should report to their hallway by 6:00 p.m.
They will perform from 6:15 – 6:30. No specific dress code, though some children do enjoy dressing up for the event.

Kindergarten students should report to their classroom by 6:20ish.
They will perform from 6:45 – 7:30. Students will be wearing their field trip t-shirts and a crown they have made, so casual clothes underneath will be just fine.

During Arts Night there will be pizza for sale, along with Grizzly Gear (Lafayette apparel and sundries),and our IMAGES publication. We hope to see you all there!

This week we also started PARCC testing. Continue to reassure your 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to be confident and calm. We know that they will do amazing – they have all learned so much this year and grown tremendous amounts. It’s exciting to watch them “show what they know”. Third and fourth grade will be done by next Tuesday. Fifth grade will finish up on Wednesday, 5/15.

Finally, this is our last day to accept nominations for LSAT.
If you are interested in nominating yourself or another parent, please email Dina Shapiro by 10 pm on Tuesday, 5/7/19. We will then seek a brief bio to include on the ballot for 5/9.

Our Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that consists of parents, teachers, non-instructional school staff, and a community member to advise the principal on matters that promote high expectations and high achievement for all students. We are specifically looking for parents who bring a diverse perspective to represent the diversity in our student and community body.

If you decide to run for LSAT, please know that the time commitment is one morning per month (usually the first Wednesday of the month from 7:30 – 8:30 am). We will elect a total of 5 parent representatives.

Voting will occur via absentee ballot at the first two Arts Nights (5/9 and 5/16). We will also hold voting at the last Arts Night on 5/23.

Here’s to many great activities in the next few weeks!
