All Clear – Students are dismissed – 4:05 pm

Dear Lafayette Elementary Families,

We have been given the all clear and students have been dismissed at 4:05 pm.

At Lafayette, we highly value and are committed to fostering a safe and secure environment conducive to the learning and success of all students. Communicating about safety issues impacting our school community is critical to maintaining strong partnerships with families.

Around 2:50 p.m. today, an incident occurred nearby that resulted in a significant police presence in our neighborhood. Out of an abundance of caution, we went into alert status.

During alert status entering or exiting the building is not permitted without proper identification. Please be assured students and staff remained safe and accounted for during this time. Due to the timing, we delayed dismissal until given the all-clear to return to normal operations. Shortly before 3:45 pm, DCPS Police cleared us to resume regular activities and began dismissing students as usual.

I want to acknowledge that incidents like these can cause anxiety and stress for both students and families. Please know that the safety of our students is always our top priority. If you have any questions, please contact the school office, or email me at .

I appreciate your support and your patience

Dr. B
