DCPS and DC Health are providing asymptomatic testing for all students with parent consent to participate on file. The team of DC Health nurses arrived today, Thursday, 3/4 to test all students with consent on file. I apologize for the mix up in day/time and the short notice!
All students with consent on file in the following cohorts were tested:
- PK (Th/F)
- KDG (am AND pm)
- 1st Grade (am AND pm except Goodwin because they were tested last Friday)
- 3rd Grade (A Week)
- 4th Grade (A Week)
- 5th Grade (A Week)
**Due to time constraints, we weren’t able to test the am cohort for 2nd grade. 2nd Grade pm cohort was tested last Friday**
If you would like to be sure your consent is on file, please check with your child’s homeroom teacher. If you have turned in a signed consent, your child received a nasal swab PCR test. It is a swab in the front part of the nasal cavity (not the “brain tickler” or “eyeball scratcher” swab that some of you may have encountered). The swab is administered by DC Health staff and will be done in either the gym. The kids were all incredible and things went smoothly.
If you have not yet turned in your consent form but would like your student to participate in the testing, please have your student return those consent forms ASAP. The link to the forms as well as a DCPS “Testing Explainer for Parents” is below.
Moving forward, we are working with our school nurse to establish a more consistent asymptomatic testing schedule that systematically tests all the different cohorts. For the first month, the schedule was created city-wide, which has caused some challenges in consistently testing all of our students. We are excited to be able to schedule this testing “in house” beginning next week!
