Welcome to the HSA
We welcome all parents and guardians as members of the HSA! We no longer charge dues for membership; the majority of our budget comes from donations to the Bear Fund, our major annual fundraising drive, and is rounded out by sponsorships and events like the Fall Festival and Spring Auction. As members, we encourage all parents and guardians to get involved by donating the Bear Fund, attending meetings, and volunteering!
New HSA Structure
As returning families may recall, last year our community approved new by-laws aimed at strengthening transparency and oversight, streamlining the executive board, and increasing parent involvement through a committee structure. As we mentioned in our back to school letter, one of our major goals is to promote inclusivity and increase parent participation with varied roles, large and small. We believe the new structure, with the establishment of an executive board and committee structure will help us meet these goals.
New Financial Practices
We’ve also been hard at work examining and updating our financial and record-keeping practices. Starting on the first day of school, teacher and parent reimbursement requests (HSA Operations requests — pink slips — and Class Activity Fee requests — blue slips) will be handled electronically. This process will make it easier to submit such a request, speed up our processing time, save paper, and provide better accountability and record-keeping. We will also return to limited use of an HSA credit card to better manage larger financial obligations of the HSA. We have outlined security checks for all of these changes and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
See you at the September 9 General Meeting
At the first General Meeting on September 9, at 6:30 pm, we will go over all of this in more detail. You will also have the opportunity to hear directly from our committee chairs about the types of programs or events their committees oversee and learn more about volunteer needs. And, as always, we welcome your feedback and questions. We hope to see you there.
