Community Notices 3/14/23

Deal Community Service Fair:

The Deal MS annual 8th Grade Community Project Fair is March 18th from 10-12 pm at Deal.  8th graders who are running donation drives for their Community Project will have booths set up in front of Deal to collect goods.  Students are collecting everything from diapers, clothes, books, canned food, sporting equipment, toiletries, school supplies, and coats.  This is a fabulous community event and a great opportunity to get a head start on your spring cleaning!  8th graders have worked hard on this IB MYP capstone project.  See Deal’s website for updates on needed donations.

DCPR Summer Camps

Thank you for your continued interest in the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). We are pleased to share information about our new Summer Camp Lottery Program, which opens today for all DC residents and DC families interested in our summer recreational programming for children and youth.

DPR heard the feedback from residents for a fairer shot at summer camp opportunities, so this year we are proud to announce a new lottery system for DC residents. In the past, families had to log on at a specific time during the workday with thousands of other families trying to get a camp slot. Slots would be gone within minutes. The new system removes the frantic rush and allows families over THREE WEEKS to consider and make their camp selections. All lottery registrations have an equal chance in the automated and randomized lottery, ensuring equity and fairness.

Log on to DPRSummerCamp.com to learn more, review camp options, and register:

Here are a few things to know before you go:

  • NOW – Summer Camp Lottery Open
  • APRIL 5 – Summer Camp Lottery Closes
  • APRIL 18 – Notification via Email of Lottery Selection

For those residents with questions or to learn more about our summer camp offerings, we ask that you join us at one of our two virtual information taking place this week on Thursday, March 16th, from 6:30 – 7:30 PM and Friday, March 17th, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. You may access the virtual information sessions and additional information about DPR Summer Camps at DPRsummercamp.com.
