Dear Lafayette Families –
Happy Holidays!!! It is hard to believe that we are just a few short days away from our Winter Break. Where did the fall go??
First, thank you to everyone who has participated this past month in our many amazing events. Thanks to Nate Wieand and all of our teachers who organized our Cookies and Coding. It was an incredible way to spend a Saturday afternoon together. A special thanks also goes out to Sarah Remes who helped organize our Maryland Science Center Family Science Night a couple of weeks ago. Again, what an amazing way to celebrate learning with our families. This past week we had the privilege of celebrating our music program with band, guitar ensemble, drum line, percussion ensemble, and our newly minted choir. Thank you to everyone who joined us for these beautiful concerts with our incredibly talented students.
As we look forward to January, please mark your calendar to join us for two events. On Tuesday, January 9th, Chancellor Wilson will be at Lafayette and host a Community Forum from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Chancellor Wilson will be engaging the DCPS community for input on the budget for the upcoming school year (FY19). It would be great to have a strong Lafayette turn out!
A little later that same week, we will be hosting our HSA General Meeting on Thursday, January 11th at 7 pm. This will be our third annual camp fair and budget engagement session. The Lafayette LSAT and HSA will co-facilitate a session to receive your input on how our community would like to see our funds utilized for the upcoming school year. After the session, there will be a multitude of camp vendors available to share information with our families.
As we approach winter break, please be sure to take time to celebrate your family and all the positive things that we share every day (both big and little). Every day I am struck with gratitude for the students who grace our building every day, the families who support us, and the incredible staff that build the foundation of our school. I wish you peace, happiness, and rest through the winter holiday and look forward to greeting you all in the new year.
