February Updates

Happy Mid-February!  We have moved through the surge from our return and are now looking at finishing the winter strong.  There are several major events upcoming that I’d like to share more information with you about.

Talking to Kids About Race Webinar, 2/16 @ 6:30 pm

Our HSA Diversity, Inclusion and Equity committee is hosting an interactive webinar facilitated by Roger Moreano on Wednesday, 2/16 from 6:30 – 8:30 titled “Talking to Kids About Race”.  Please join us!  Here’s the flyer.  To register, folks can click on this link.  Please don’t miss this rich and important dialogue.

LSAT Budget Discussion, 2/16 @ 7:30 am

Last week, DCPS and Mayor Bowser released the initial allocations for school budgets.  Lafayette was allocated $11,058,073.  For the upcoming school year, we are projected for a total enrollment of 885 students.  Last week the LSAT met and discussed possible budget scenarios given that we will not have the almost $1 million in ESSER III federal rescue funds this next school year.  The LSAT sent out a survey to gain feedback from the community.  Similarly, we met as a school staff and discussed our budget options and teachers and staff were able to weigh in on budgeting priorities.  The LSAT will meet one final time this Wednesday morning (2/16) at 7:30 am to discuss the draft budget, the results of the survey and to make recommendations on overall spending on the DCPS budget.  The meeting is open and all are welcome.  Please join us here on TEAMS at 7:30 am.  Click here to join the meeting
