From Dr. B

Dear Lafayette Families –

Welcome to December! Last week we had several amazing student events. Bravo to our Drama club students, led by the fearless Mr. King and Ms. Annie Campbell. The fall production was an outstanding showcase of our young thespians! Kudos also to all of you who volunteered or joined us for the 4th Annual Cookies and Coding event this past Saturday. There were over 160 kids and families engaged in awesome STEM activities all morning. Thank you as always to Mr. Soriano and the teachers on the Tech committee for making this incredible event possible!

This week is our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to all of our volunteers! The whole building is a buzz with excitement as every class makes their way through the Book Fair. This week the registration for FLEX Winter Enrichment courses also opens on Thursday, 12/6 at 10 am. Please see the flyer here. Thursday is also picture re-take day. We will cap off our week on Friday with a school wide “Hour of Code”. This Saturday, Ward 4 will also be hosting their annual Holiday Party at Lafayette from 6 pm – 8 pm. Please consider joining us!

As we come into this winter season we will inevitably struggle with inclement weather. In the event of a school cancellation, please check the local media outlets, as well as the DCPS website. We will also post the delay/cancellation on our DCPS website as well as a robocall.

In the spirit of being good neighbors, there are a few reminders for us as a community:

  • There is no adult supervision for students in the morning prior to 8:20 am. Please do not send students to school prior to 8:20 am. There is no one to supervise them.
  • Please do not use the alley at Northampton as a “turn around” or “cut through”. There are students and staff who walk through this alley and it becomes very dangerous.
  • There are two new Handicap accessible parking spots on Broad Branch Road that begin at the corner of Northampton. Please do not stop/park in this zone unless you have handicap accessible parking placards displayed.
  • Our next LSAT meeting is Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. All members of our community are invited to join us as we discuss OSSE’s new School Report Card STAR rating system.

I hope everyone has an awesome week filled with new books, coding, and lots of rest as we continue through our holiday season.

Take care,
Dr. B
