From the HSA: Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year

Welcome to the new school year!  If your families are like ours, you’re feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety, coupled with a healthy dose of gratitude to our administration, teachers and staff for their hard work, positivity and leadership.  We are also so proud to be a part of this amazing parent community. We have watched parents help in many ways — hosting virtual playdates to welcome new families, answering questions about technology, donating school supplies or just lending moral support and affirmation!  We are particularly appreciative of our New Family Outreach Team – Nedra Pickler, Jess Voris, Sue Long, Janice Wilding, Valerie Cline, Dana Miller, Jamie Novikoff, Farah Shah, Christina Daulton and Danielle Carter, for their efforts in making our new families feel embraced, welcomed and secure.

We hope that you will join us for the first HSA General Meeting on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 pm via Zoom.
  • First, we will be holding a vote on a proposed fundraising equity pledge passed by the Board at our last meeting. While we will be providing much more detailed communication about the pledge in advance of the meeting, essentially, we will be asking the parents to vote on a pledge of ten percent of Bear Fund Fundraising to go towards an organization to support DCPS students outside of the Lafayette community. Jeanie Lee, Executive Director of the DC Ed Fund will attend to help explain how we can make a positive impact with our funds.
  • Second, we will update you on our Board election process, to be held virtually September 30.  This will also be a last call for self-nominations. All interested candidates should submit a brief statement of interest to by September 9.
  • Third, we will give an “HSA 101” presentation. New families can learn about the HSA’s mission and about volunteer and leadership opportunities. Returning families can get an update of our summer planning and hear about the HSA’s goals and vision of the upcoming school year.
Wishing you a warm welcome and few tech hiccups along this path!  As always, reach out with any questions or concerns.
