Get to Know The Pre-K Teachers

Robert “Bobby” Johnson started teaching at Lafayette in 1983! He teaches Pre-K in Rainbow Base with Ms. Warbington. Mr. Johnson was the first black male early childhood teacher to teach Pre-K! He has coached the boys and girls basketball teams and considered the Lafayette Bears one of his favorite teams. Outside of school, he enjoys detailing exotic cars (have you seen the car he drives to school!?), cooking out with friends and family, reading, biking and playing basketball. This summer he spent some time hanging out in Miami and the Bahamas. He attended St. Augustine’s University and Howard University. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
 
 
Did you know Cassidy Martinez can still do a cartwheel?! She is origiinally from Eden, NC, but now lives in Silver Spring where she enjoys spending time with her girls, walking her dog, Nora, and going to the movies. She teaches Pre-K in Lime Base with Ms. Carr. This past summer she traveled to Costa Rica with her husband and kids. In her spare time she loves using power tools and cheering on Elisa’s soccer team, The Royal Blue Pug Tornados.
 
 
 
 
Irene Taguian is originally from the Philippines, but now lives in Capitol Riverfront in South East DC. She studied at the University of the Philippines (where she performed with one of the top Filipino choirs) and later George Mason University. Ms. Taguian teaches Pre- K in Blue Base with Ms. Cruz. This past summer she traveled to Mexico and even swam in a cenote! When she’s not at Lafayette, Ms. Taguian enjoys traveling, eating exotic food and cheering on the Nats.
 
 
 
 
Dina Shapiro has spent most of her live in DC, and currently lives in Brightwood. Her DC roots go so far back that her grandmother’s principal was Alice Deal! She teaches Pre-K in Silver Base with Ms. Henderson. This past summer she finally cut the cord and got rid of cable. Instead of watching TV, Ms. Shapiro enjoys spending time with her son Shane, cheering on the Nats, and dreaming of one day having long blue hair.
 
 
 
 
Kia Ghamarian is originally from Iran (and is fluent in Farsi), but grew up here and currently lives in Bethesda, MD. She teaches Pre-K in Yellow Base with Ms. Rush. This past summer, Ms. Ghamarian got to travel to Bermuda. In her spare time she enjoys watching “This Is Us”, eating out, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends.
