5th Grade Photos Needed!

Calling all 5th grade family photographers – we need your photos!  We are currently creating our annual 5th grade promotion slide show and are in search of pictures spanning the students’ career at Lafayette!  Remember how cute they were in PK4 and KDG?!?  If you have photos you would like to have considered for the slideshow, please upload the files here:  5th Grade Photos

Virtual Clap Out footage needed!  Calling all PK4 – 4th Grade Students!

An annual tradition for our 5th graders is the much beloved “clap out”;  all 800+ students line the halls of the building creating a clapping tunnel of love as the 5th grade students leave the building one last time.   While we cannot create that same experience in person this year, we are going to create a virtual clap out!

Here’s what we need from as many PK4 – 4th grade students as possible:

  1. Horizontally framed, fixed point of view in front of porch, so outside, student looking into the lens of the camera,  clapping for at least 10s.
  2. Best to start the shot silent, go into clapping and cheering and then end after 10s returning to silence.
  3. Clips need to be sent to using Wetransfer.com or via Dropbox with a link to the shot.
  4. Should be only one shot named after family e.g. vandewalle.mov or vandewalle.mp4
  5. If you need help, please email Marc Van De Walle at

All clapping videos should be emailed to Marc no later than Friday, 5/22.

Update on Mayor’s 5/15 Press Conference

Last month, Mayor Bowser shared that she would provide an update on next steps for summer school and the upcoming 20-21 school year on May 15th.  Yesterday I learned that this announcement has been postponed until May 22nd.   I wish I had more information to share, but I am learning the information in real time with all of you.  At this time, teachers and admin don’t have any other information than the general public.  As soon as we all know more, we will share.

Summer Learning Resources

Many of you have asked about online resources that will be available over the summer.  Our Summer Reading Committee is hard at work curating a Summer Resources Round Up document.  Stay tuned for more information!

Book Donations Needed!

We are creating a good old fashioned book mobile for our families who have limited access to reading materials given that school and libraries are closed.  That means we need books!!!  Beginning on Friday, 5/15, there will be several plastic bins outside the front doors of schools.  Please donate any books (ages KDG – 5th grade) you no longer need!  We will be creating book boxes that we deliver to kids in our school community on a weekly basis.  More information to come.

Happy Friday eve!  Looking forward to seeing all the pictures and videos from Field Day!!!

Be well,

Dr. B
