Lafayette Gives Back: Help Seniors By Donating Electric Fans

Happy spring from Lafayette Gives Back! Thanks to all who RSVP’ed for our Lafayette Park clean-up that was postponed due to rain. Stay tuned for our make-up date.

We wanted to thank everyone again who contributed to the beautiful Care Bags for MLK Jr. Day of Service. Through our partner Goods for Good, Lafayette Gives Back was able to donate over 100 bags to We Are Family Senior Outreach Network, which provides services to seniors in low income housing in Columbia Heights, Shaw, North Capitol Street, Adams-Morgan, and Petworth neighborhoods. We heard back that the care bags were “received with glee” so THANK YOU for putting your energy into that winter service project with your children. From stocking the bags with hot cocoa and warm socks to … … electric fans.

Partnering again with Goods for Good, we’d like to continue bringing visibility to vulnerable seniors right here in DC. Summer is coming, and many elderly low-income residents don’t have air conditioning or cannot afford to turn it on for financial reasons. If you have a table top or pedestal fan in good working condition that you are able to donate, we’d love to have it! If you are able to buy one new, that would also be immensely appreciated. Having a fan during the worst of DC summer can vastly improve the quality of life and physical health of seniors who may already struggle with heat stroke, asthma and other underlying conditions.

Please see the Sign-Up Genius below; all details about how/when/where to donate will be on the sign-up link. We hope that as you and your child clean off a fan that you no longer need or pick out a new one from Amazon, it will be a relatively easy but valuable way to continue to talk to our kids about the inequitable realities of life here in DC.
