Math Center News

Math Club: Math Club will be for students in grades 3, 4 and 5. We focus on investigations, games and problem-solving and welcome any student with a love for math. This year we will be meeting on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 to 8:40 A.M. The Lafayette Math Club will have its first session on Wednesday, September 26th, at 8 A.M. and will continue to meet every Wednesday morning that we have school. We will gather in the Great Hall at 8 a.m. and proceed to the Math Center (208). We ask that mathematicians bring a folder, a pencil and a willingness to learn.

Math Team: Calling all 4th and 5th grade mathematicians! We are excited about another year of problem-solving and creative mathematical thinking. We do participate in a handful of math competitions every year, but really we are just a bunch of people who like to get together and talk about math. This year we are continuing something we started last year: splitting Math Team practice sessions into a girls’ group and a boys’ group. We are excited about the potential for these two smaller groups and look forward to continuing this experiment. The Lafayette Math team will have its first meeting on Friday, September 14th at 8 a.m. and will continue to meet every Friday morning that we have school. We will gather in the Great Hall at 8 a.m. and proceed to the Math Cave (208) & Mr. Gregal’s room (225). Math Team members should bring a folder, a pencil, and a readiness to accept a challenge.
In the next week, Ms. Duchinsky or Ms. Stanton will be coming to talk to each math class and distribute permission slips. After that, forms will be available in the Math Center and completed forms can be placed in Ms. Duchinsky’s mailbox or given to the student’s math teacher.
