It is with great pride and excitement that I write to introduce Madison Bosurgi as our new Assistant Principal at Lafayette. Ms. Bosurgi joined the Lafayette family last school year as a 3rd grade teacher. Prior to moving to D.C., she taught 1st grade in New Jersey for eight years. She has also been involved in leadership at the early-elementary level in her previous experiences. She brings a level of passion, organization, and thoughtfulness that will benefit all students, staff, and families of our community. While we will deeply miss her in the classroom, I am confident that she will be able to make her mark on a much broader level as an assistant principal.
Thank you to all of the parents and teachers who were involved in the selection process. It was a very rigorous process with many great candidates. We are beyond excited that Ms. Bosurgi rose to the top.
In other news, the After School Advisory Team met the last Monday of the school year. During our meeting, the ASAT heard updates from FLEX and CLS. The meeting minutes are here. In short, CLS has currently enrolled 280 students. All LAP staff who have expressed interest in a position have been offered employment by CLS. There is currently not a wait list for aftercare. As new families join our community over the summer, they still have the opportunity to enroll in aftercare. The ASAT also drafted new by-laws to formalize the roll of the ASAT in our community. Please see the by-laws and roster of participants. FLEX said it was working with CLS to coordinate offerings and agreed to release its schedule earlier than in past years.
Also — our north playgrounds and the track will be closed from June 26th to July 14th. Workers will be painting the asphalt and finishing the surface. Please help us complete this final push of construction by staying off these areas, so the crews can finish in a timely way.
I hope everyone has settled nicely into summer and is enjoying a slower pace of life. I will be in touch over the course of the summer with more about art installations, supply lists, and further staff updates. Class lists and a “summer mailer” will be shared at the beginning of August.
