New Masking Guidelines and Isolation Period Updates

Hi Lafayette Families!  Today the Chancellor shared several updates to our COVID guidance.  See below for more details!

Masking Update

  • NEW! Students, staff and visitors will no longer be required to wear a mask when outdoors at our schools, effective immediately. Masks will continue to be required for all students, staff, and visitors while indoors.

What does this mean for us?

  • Masks are no longer required for lineup, dismissal, and recess time outdoors.
  • Teachers will be teaching students the new procedures for outdoors, as well as teaching our students to respect each other’s choices while outdoors.
  • Some students, staff, and community members will continue to mask while outdoors – that’s ok!  Some students, staff and community members will choose to unmask while outdoors – that’s ok!
  • Read through the social stories we will be reading with students to help them adjust to this shift in their surroundings:

**Please take the time to talk with your student about the choice they feel most comfortable making while outdoors – and how to respect and support the choices of their peers – even if they aren’t the same as theirs.**

 Update for Visitors and Spectators

  • NEW! There will be no district-wide limitations on audience and spectators at sporting events, arts performances, or student showcases as of today. Individual schools may continue to set limits as needed for managing any events. Masks continue to be required for indoor events.

What does this mean for us?

  • We will be seeking parent volunteers for the library and art rooms! Be on the look out for a sign up and more information.
  • We will also start in person mystery readers in PreK and KDG.  More information to come from your teachers.
  • We are starting to plan our really fun end of year events like Field Day, 5th grade trip to 6 Flags, end of year parties, and other great traditions.

**We will continue to adhere to social distancing and be prudent in our actions as a community as we start to re-embrace these community wide events and celebrations.**

Update on Isolation Periods in the event of a positive COVID test

  • Updated Isolation Guidance
  • We also have welcomed a new COVID facilitator – Victor Azaribe – to our team!   He will be in contact in the event that your child is a close contact or tests positive.

All other COVID guidance remains in tact – including social distancing, asymptomatic testing, contact tracing, quarantine guidance, and HVAC specifications.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
