News and Upcoming Events from Alice Deal Middle School

Hi Lafayette Parents,

On behalf of the Alice Deal Community Association, I wanted to share news about upcoming events at Deal that would be of interest to prospective students and families:
March 17-19 Deal Shakespeare Mashup – Buy tickets to the Deal theater performance of scenes, speeches, and sonnets from Shakespeare’s work.  This production takes the old fashioned out of Shakespeare to find the fun, juicy, dramatic, and silly in his work.  Attending a show is a great way for future Deal students to get more familiar with the building and school events.  Tickets can be bought here:
March 19th Deal Virtual Auction – Deal‘s auction this year is virtual, with a pre-auction VIP reception at 6:15pm, where you can learn how to make a Negroni from the bartender from I’m Eddie Cano (ingredients provided) and virtual trivia starting at 7pm.  Auction tickets are $30 but you can bid on items without attending the trivia portion.  There are items of interest for soon-to-be Deal families, like Deal gear and 6th grade assistant principal for a day, plus items any DC-resident would love (premium wine cellar, restaurant gift cards, sporting event tickets, and signed Caps gear).  The auction bidding begins on March 14th and you can find out all the information you need here:
March 22nd at 6:30pm (Microsoft Teams), Lafayette Feeder School Chat – Join Principal Neal, staff, students, and the ADCA for a Lafayette-specific meeting to answer questions about all things Deal.  The meeting is aimed at 5th graders and their parents but anyone can join.  Here’s the meeting link:
March 26th 10am-Noon, Open House and Community Project Fair – Join us at Deal for guided walk-throughs of the school, Q&A with Principal Neal and the ADCA, and get some Deal gear.  Please also support 8th graders working on their Community Projects by donating clothing; feminine products and other personal hygiene items; dog and cat food/bedding/toys; art supplies; canned goods; dried beans/grains; and whole grain cereal; young adult books; and small plants.  The complete list of items being collected as a part of this student capstone project can be found here: Don’t have time to shop? Use this Amazon wishlist to buy items to support these projects:

April 2nd Open House and Mulch Sale – If you can’t make the open house the weekend before, don’t worry, we’re doing it again from 10am-Noon on April 2nd.  This day is also the launch of Deal‘s annual mulch sale.  Information will be forthcoming and can be found on the Deal website in the coming weeks (

We’re grateful that circumstances are lining up for us to be able to hold events in person to welcome prospective students and families, as well as gather as a community. Feel free to reach out to the ADCA at  with any questions!
