Spelling Bee Winners!

Happy winners got Politics and Prose gift cards from the HSA  for their spelling bee accomplishments. L to R:  Boaz Movit, school champ; Afsheen Benab, pronouncer; Jonah Levy and Oliver Siegel, third and second place winners.

 
H-Y-M-N-A-L! That was the word that fourth grader Boaz Movit spelled correctly in the 11th round of the Lafayette Spelling Bee to make him the school champion! Congratulations to Boaz, to the others winners, and to all 35 participants of a thrilling Lafayette Spelling Bee 
 
1st Place: Boaz Movit-4the grade, Ms. Styles
2nd Place: Oliver Siegel-5th grade, Ms. Cassidy
3rd Place: Jonah Levy-5th grade, Ms. Peters
Alternate: Alex Springer-5th grade, Ms. Cassidy
 
Thanks to the Lafayette HSA, Boaz, Oliver and Jonah took home $25, $15, and $15 Politics and Prose gift cards respectively. All 35 spellers will receive certificates of participation at an upcoming popcorn party. (TBA)
 
The next step for the three Lafayette winners is the regional bee which is held at Langdon Elementary school in early February. (Exact day and time TBD.) Until then, Alex Springer will study along with the winners in case an alternate is needed. Three Lafayette spellers have a chance to win at the regional level and go on to the city-wide bee held at NBC-4 studios on Feb. 29.
