It’s time for Lafayette’s annual spelling bee! Instead of a live bee, we’ll be using Scripps’ official online testing platform. Students in grades three through five have between Monday, January 25 and Thursday, January 28 to take the test. The students with the three top scores will advance to the cluster bee in February.
To have access to the bee tests, students have to be registered by an adult. You will need to go to online-test.spellingbee.com, click on Register in the upper-right corner, find our school (zip code is 20015), and create an account with an email address. A video tutorial is available here. Deadline to register is Wednesday, but if you register any time after Monday at 3:30, please contact Ms. Leese so she can make sure your student is assigned the test!
For our school bee, please monitor your student while taking it if possible. Students will log on and sign an integrity pledge. There will be 25 words to spell, and most (but not all) will be words from the Beginning Study List. Students will type in their responses. They will click on the speaker icon to hear the word, and they will be able to get definitions and languages of origin. The test is not multiple choice, but we still recommend taking the sample test beforehand to make sure your student is comfortable with the platform and your sound is working.
Ms. Leese will email the families of the top three students on Friday. All students can see their test results after the test ends on Thursday by logging into the online testing platform.
Links for the study lists, registration information and the testing platform are all available on the Lafayette Tech page.
Thank you and good luck!
