A Note from Ms. Ryden

In case you missed it...

On Wednesday 9/16 Historic Chevy Chase presented a webinar on the history of the Lafayette Land "When Jim Crow Came to Chevy Chase". Unfortunately many people who registered were unable to attend because of Zoom issues. Here's the video of the event.

On Tuesday 9/15 two of Lafayette's former students, now 6th graders at Deal, Marleigh McKay and Penelope Mason testified before the DC Council asking for the park and rec center to be renamed Lafayette-Pointer Park and Rec Center after Captain George Pointer. Check out their fantastic testimony here.

I'm so proud of Marleigh and Penelope and all of the kids who got passionate about this issue back in February. In our SPARK Club (Students Planning a Revolution of Kindness - the social justice club for 4th and 5th graders) we'll continue to think about this issue and what we can do today to make a difference.
Submissions for next week's issue should be emailed to news@lafayettehsa.org. Submissions are due by 9:00 p.m. on Sundays. Submissions received after this time will be included in the following issue, unless instructed otherwise.
