Welcome Back - Almost!

On behalf of the Lafayette Home and School Association (HSA), your parent representatives, this is a quick note to provide details about how to get involved in the coming school year as well as information on a few items of note. We are looking forward to a new school year, and working with all of you to make it a successful one for all our students.

The Top Lines:

Our school thrives because of you. All the wonderful extras that make Lafayette great? They come from parents’ volunteer efforts and financial support. This means we need your help!

1. Every contribution counts, so please donate and get involved. Visit LafayetteHSA.org/donate to learn more. Or check out the volunteer page!

2. Your time is just as valuable. Contact a HSA rep or look for the many volunteer opportunities throughout the year, from room parenting to the Fall Festival to our (in)famous School Auction.

3. Keep in touch and up to date. Visit our new and improved website and sign up for the Tuesday Bulletin— your weekly source of school news.

The Full Rundown:

Your HSA
The Lafayette HSA is a group of volunteer parents, Lafayette staff and members of our neighborhood elected to represent the school community.
We’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit group, like a traditional PTA. All 22 members of the Board strive to create a sense of community by bringing parents and school together in a cooperative way. Please find complete list of board members and their emails here.

Become a Member/Donate
Without your generous support, Lafayette is unable to offer the well-rounded learning experience that has been a tradition at our school. Our HSA funds many of the vital activities public schools have lost to budget constraints. The HSA funds our much-loved and well-respected Peace Program; technology equipment; science enrichment classes; art and music programs; athletic uniforms; and much, much more. We ask every Lafayette family to donate at some level and join the HSA - please visit LafayetteHSA.org/donate. We thank you in advance for your generous support.

Volunteer (Please!)
Year after year, hundreds of Lafayette parents give their time to support our school and we greatly appreciate it. There are small, medium and large volunteer opportunities available - something that can work with any parent’s schedule. From room parent to the Spring Auction to lending a hand at Field Day or Arts Night, we’ve got something for everyone. Whether you’re new to Lafayette or just looking for new ways to get involved, please fill out the form here and our parent volunteer coordinator will contact you. Thanks!

Other Items of Note:

Spring Madness
At the end of last year, it was clear that volunteer fatigue is a real issue for all of us - especially come May and June. When planning out fundraising events for this school year, last year's HSA board considered and voted at its June meeting to beef up our annual Fall Festival in October (including more rides and activities) and hold off on hosting a Spring Fair in May. As you know, even though many of us will really miss having a fair the spring, May has several terrific events to bring our community together, including two Arts Nights, two Field Days and Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week activities. These activities require hundreds of parent volunteer hours, leaving many of us tapped out. Additionally, with uncooperative weather two of the last three years, we have forfeited thousands of dollars on fees for cancelled rides. We’ll try this new format out this year, and revisit the idea of hosting a Spring Fair in the 2018-2019 school year. Stay tuned for more in the months ahead.

Back to School Night
Have you lined up your babysitter for Back to School Night yet? Please do! This fun and informative night includes presentations by Dr. B, the HSA as well as your child’s teachers, and also includes an expo that will help you learn about all the great things at Lafayette including athletic, language and arts programs, and many ways you can get involved. Pre-k, 1st, 3rd and 5th grade Back-to-School Night is August 30th; Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade parents are scheduled for August 31. We look forward to seeing you there. See more info here.

Media Release Form
We love to share photos of our student learning and playing, but we need your ok. Please review the media release form here and sign and submit if you approve. We’ll never use a child's full name with any photo.

As your HSA Co-Presidents, we look forward to working with each of you and please do not hesitate to reach out over the course of the school year with any questions or concerns.
