Come to the HSA General Meeting Thursday!

Fellow Parents,

Thanks to everyone who helped make Lafayette’s Fall Festival such a great success – it was a beautiful, fun-filled day! As many of you know, our Fall Festival was a much bigger event than in years past and we would like your feedback so that we can ensure it is one of the highlights of our school year. Please share your thoughts with us here.

The HSA Board has several vacancies and we encourage anyone who is interested in joining to reach out to us and learn more. Joining the Board is a great way to engage in and support the school community through our fundraising and community events. The vacant positions are: Communications, Hospitality, and Treasurer, Accounts Payable.

We also hope to see all of you at HSA General Meeting on Thursday, November 2 at 7 p.m. in the library. At the meeting, we will learn more about Lafayette’s Peace Program, talk upcoming events and the HSA membership drive, and discuss a new board governance committee that is open to all HSA members. Babysitting will be provided.

Ahead of the board meeting, please join Ways and Means Chair Astrid Ruggeri for an informational meeting about the 2018 auction at 6:30 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to learn about how you can be involved in the funds raised for all of the wonderful programs here at Lafayette.

As always, please contact your HSA co-presidents, Chris Lisi and Margaret Lidstone, should you have any questions or if we can be of assistance.

Thank you!

IADB event: How do you raise smart kids?

Join the Inter-American Development Bank for a free event to explore this question through a series of inspirational talks by experts in neuroscience and child development who will provide concrete advice about how we can better prepare our children to excel in school and life. The day begins with internationally recognized neurologist Philip Zelazo as he explains the changes we can actually see in our children’s brain when we stimulate their learning. Later, Stephanie Jones, early childhood professor from Harvard University will talk about how some of our parent practices may negatively affect our children’s brain development. Finally, Deborah Leong and Deborah Eyre, world-renowned education experts, will explain what we can do to advance our kids’ path to independence and success. You will also meet Beberly Devers, the world’s youngest winner of international Salsa championship, Chess Grand Master Maurice Ashley and Galpão Aplauso from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as they demonstrate the power of play and art in early childhood brain development.

For more information, check out the event website at www.iadb.org/alasidb. If you already know you want your kids to be smarter, then just click this link to register for the event, but do it fast; seating is limited.
