Kaleidoscope Groups for Parents

Interest Meeting - Thursday, 11/16, 6:30 pm

Building a More Inclusive Lafayette & Affinity Group

At Lafayette Elementary, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, supportive and nurturing community for all students, and their caregivers. As a part of our We Are Lafayette Initiative, we are taking strides to acknowledge, support and educate our community of children and adults to be sensitive to, and respectful of, the diversity in our own community and beyond.

We are launching a set of parent-led, student-focused affinity groups to bring together parents and caregivers around identity-based perspectives that may be missing or underrepresented in our school community. In partnership with teachers and staff, the groups will provide the space and opportunity for parents and caregivers to share common experiences and identify ways in which members can be better represented in the culture of our school, support diverse programming, and provide the school with a better understanding of diversity and inclusion, and their impact on our student’s experience at Lafayette and in the larger community.

To learn more about our efforts to build a more inclusive Lafayette or to join an affinity group, please join us on Thursday, November 16th at 6:30 pm. Please feel free to call in on a conference line if you cannot join us: 1-712-775-7031, ID 155-942-027

Proposed Affinity groups include: Parents of Children of Color (P-COC), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Allies Parenting Group (LGBTQA), Touched by Adoption, and Parents of Children with Special Needs. This list is not exhaustive, and we welcome ideas for additional groups.
