MLK Community Service Fair at Lafayette A Success
|
|
Thank you to everyone who participated in another very successful day of community service at Lafayette on MLK Day. Together we made 400 sandwiches for hungry clients at Martha’s Table, and hundreds each of chew toys for dogs at the Humane Rescue Alliance, activity kits for sick children at the Children’s National Medical Center, cards and snack bags for local fire and police officers, and notes of kindness to senior citizens at Knollwood Retirement Center. DC Government Survey Regarding Fields
|
Do you, have you or will you in the future use a DC Public School (DCPS) or DC Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) field? If so, the “District of Columbia (DC) Artificial Turf Interagency Work Group would like your feedback.
Based on community concerns regarding local fields the Interagency DC Artificial Turf Interagency Work Group was established.

Over the past three months, the DC Artificial Turf Interagency Work Group has been meeting regularly to review playing surface safety research, field maintenance best practices, public engagement approaches, and user group communication methods. This survey is an important way to gain additional feedback from DC residents and users of playing fields based on their experiences with fields owned and operated by the District government, including public parks and schools.

We're also interested in your perspective on the type of materials used for field surfaces, and how any major changes to fields are communicated to residents and users of the fields. The Work Group will develop policy recommendations based on the research, survey results and community feedback. The final report will be made available to the public.
Responses to this survey will help inform improvements to District policy on managing and maintaining fields and have the option of submitting contact information for further engagement on this topic, but you also have the option to remain anonymous.

Winter Indoor Tennis at Chevy Chase Community Center for Boys and Girls 5-12 Starts January 29
|
If your tennis player didn’t make it into one of Flex tennis classes at Lafayette Elementary School we have another tennis option for your player. Lafayette Tennis is now offering indoor winter tennis activities at the Chevy Chase Community Center beginning on January 29th for boys and girls ranging in age from 5 to 12. They will run for 8 weeks. We will be using one of the game rooms in the community center with tennis racquets, mini-nets and foam balls. The kids will have fun learning different shots while playing games and doing challenging drills that involve lots of hitting and running. Each class is 1 hour long. Each 8 week session costs $200. Don't forget to come to the community meeting on January 17 at 6:30PM at the Chevy Chase Community Center to support what you want to see being done to the new Lafayette Park recreation building, especially lighting around the building in the winter time.
