Black Lives Matter Week and Black History Month

Over the course of this past week we are proud to be celebrating Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Schools (February 5th – 10th) in conjunction with the D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice, Center for Inspired Teaching, the Washington Teachers’ Union, D.C. area educators, and community members. This week builds on the momentum of the National Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Our Schools campaign taking place in cities across the U.S. to promote a set of local and national demands focused on improving the school experience for students of color.

Over the course of this week we have shown our students several videos, discussed the tenants of the Black Lives Matter movement and how this national movement impacts us as students and as a school community.

Here are several links to resources we have been using as a school:

Lesson Plans Utilized

Our Lives Matter PSA

Sesame Street Color of Me

Please take a few minutes to review the two video links above and the lessons we have been sharing in the classrooms. It has been a tremendous week thus far!

For the remainder of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month. This will include a poster contest, daily facts, a sock drive and a scavenger hunt. Please be on the look out for more information and for updates throughout the month. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, would like to know more about how to be involved, or would like to participate.

Take care,
Dr. B
