Flu Season Update

Flu season is alive and well at Lafayette. We have had a large number of students and staff impacted by a variety of illnesses over the past two weeks: the flu, stomach virus, pneumonia, and fifth's disease. In order to minimize everyone's exposure and expedite our path to wellness, please follow these guidelines from Nurse Cockrell:

Keep sick students home.
  • Students should be free of symptoms for 24 hours. This includes fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or sore throat.
  • If a student vomits, has a fever, or has diarrhea in the morning, please do not send them to school later that day They must be symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours.
Report confirmed cases of the flu to Nurse Cockrell at 202-724-8961 or by email. This can help us track our illnesses and protect any students who may have compromised immune systems.

As a school, our custodial staff and teachers continue to clean, disinfect, and wipe down everything. We are encouraging extra hand washing, hand sanitizer, and taking extra cleaning precautions. But we need your help! While attendance does matter and we want kids at school every day, we need them to be healthy.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Nurse Cockrell can be reached at 202-724-8961 or by email.
