Public Safety Family Fun Day- Saturday, May 12

CCCA's annual Public Safety Family Fun Day is scheduled from 2-4 pm Saturday, May 12 in the parking lot of the PNC Bank, on Morrison Street off Connecticut Ave. N.W. It will be a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to come out and get to know our local public safety officers from the Metropolitan Police District’s Second District, which patrols our area, and D.C Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel from Engine Company 31 on Connecticut Avenue.

If you've ever wondered who the brave men and women are who keep our great neighborhood safe, this will be a great chance to introduce yourself! We'll have visits from MPD's Special Operations Division, with its Bearcat armored vehicle and motorcycles, while the fire department engine company will showcase its engine. Kids will have an opportunity to explore the vehicles. Other activities include a LIDAR station, where visitors can measure vehicle speeds along Connecticut Avenue with members of the 2nd District, a public safety trivia game to learn more about our city agencies and win prizes, a drug take-back, and a chance to test your accuracy on an MPD practice target. Hot dogs and ice cream will be served. Please bring your families!

Collecting Used Musical Instruments
Hi, I’m Gabe Schwartz, a Lafayette graduate and current 8th grader at Alice Deal Middle School. For my 8th grade community service project I’m collecting used musical instruments for an organization called Hungry for Music.

If you have any broken or unused instruments lying around that you don’t know how to repair or what to do with, please consider donating them. I am collecting all kinds of instruments and they can be in any condition. Hungry for Music will repair and refurbish them.

Hungry for Music is a nonprofit organization that collects and redistributes more than 500 instruments a year. Since they started 23 years ago they have placed more than 11,000 instruments with young people who need instruments in 49 states and 25 countries.
There is a container on my porch at 5713 Chevy Chase Parkway NW, and I would be happy to come pick up an instrument at your house if that would be easier.

Thanks!
Gabe Schwartz
