Revised By-Laws: Please Review and Join Us April 25

Dear Lafayette Community,
As mentioned at the last few HSA general meetings and in recent communications, the HSA Board has been hard at work revising the HSA’s current by-laws, so we can more effectively serve the needs of our children and our school. The primary goal for amending the by-laws is to streamline and modernize how the board operates. The most significant change is the creation of a smaller executive board with overall governance and fiduciary responsibility for the HSA and standing committees with responsibility for the implementation of fundraising, community program, communications and outreach activities driven by the HSA. We hope these changes also increases volunteer opportunities for more members of our school community which we believe are more manageable in terms of time commitment. The draft by-laws also provide for more flexibly on how the Board operates and provides better alignment with DCPS budgeting process. Finally, we have added key financial oversight provisions to the by-laws. Over the next several months the HSA Board will be working on updating and expanding the HSA Handbook so that operating policies and procedures are updated, well documented and transparent.

These bylaw changes will require the approval of our general membership. We will discuss and vote to adopt these revised by-laws at its April 25 general meeting-- please take a moment to review them here and join us at the general meeting.

As always, please reach out with any questions.

-- Margaret Lidstone & Anu Gupta, HSA Co-Presidents
