Lafayette Gives Back

Lafayette Gives Back is our school’s community service program, which provides our students and families with hands-on volunteer opportunities. These events allow our kids to gain a better understanding of the needs in our region and beyond, and to see how they are able to personally make a difference.

Here are upcoming Lafayette Gives Back opportunities:

  • 10/31/2016 – Trick or Treating at Knollwood: After all of the Halloween excitement at school on the 31st, keep those costumes on and join Lafayette Gives Back for an opportunity to extend the fun, and share the joy with the residents of Knollwood Military Retirement Community. The children will get to show off their ensembles in a costume parade, and have a great time trick-or-treating with the residents. Further details will be forthcoming.
  • Annual Coat Drive: We are currently collecting coats for DCPS students in need. Our goal is to collect 300 coats. Please leave a new or gently used (& freshly laundered) coat in one of the bins at the Fall Festival or drop one off at 5841 Nebraska Ave. Thank you for helping keep all DC kids warm and toasty once the cold weather starts!

Past events:

  • Jan. 2016 – Baby Carriers for Refugees: We collected baby carriers for Carry the Future, a non-profit organization that distributed them to Syrian refugees in Greece.
  • Nov. 2015 – Packing Bags for Foster Children: On Sunday, Nov. 22nd, more than 60 volunteers came to the Big Top and packed more than 100 backpacks for Comfort Cases to provide to children in foster care. Lafayette families donated loads of comfort items—from toiletries to stuffed animals—for the backpacks. We also received generous support from GlobalPhone and Barstons Child’s Play for this project.
  • Oct. 2015 – Trick-or-Treating at the Washington Home: On October 30th, a group of about 28 students paraded through the Washington Home and delighted the elderly residents, who enjoyed seeing the kids decked out in their holiday disguises!
