News From the Art Room

Contest News: Fall Festival Logo entries are due in the art room THIS WEEK (by 9-28). Remember–no more than 3 colors in your design!

Open Studio has started: The big kids art room is open for extra art experiences two times during the day! Grades 2-5 can come to the art room at FLEX time (2:40-3:05) if they need to complete an art class project. In addition, Open Studio at recess is BACK! Grades 3-5 can come to the art room as a recess alternative for any kind of art exploration (Grades 3&4 on days 1,3,5 and Grade 5 on 2,4,6).

What’s up in art class? Hispanic Heritage Month inspires our creations!!!

Pre-K is making Barriletes (giant kites from Guatemala). Kindergarten creates fanciful Amate bark paintings (from Mexico). Grade 1 is drawing Abstract designs with textured backgrounds (inspired by Spanish artist Joan Miro). Grade 2 uses Kuna Indian Molas from Panama as their inspiration. Grade 3 uses mixed media to create Storytelling Arpilleras (originally from Peru and Chile). Grade 4 explores the paintings of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (and uses facial proportions and symbolism to show personality). And grade 5 learns about American Latino artist Patssi Valdez (to create fantasy moving interiors using color theory).
