Carrie Broquard, known as Dr. B to Lafayette students, has led Lafayette as its principal since 2014. Carrie Broquard began her career in education as a science teacher in Los Angeles, California. Within the Los Angeles Unified School District, Dr. B later served as a chemistry teacher, gifted and talented education coordinator, and an assistant principal. In 2008, she relocated to Normal, Il where she has served as an assistant principal, an emotional-disabilities coordinator, and a clinical assistant professor in educational administration. Dr. B holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in education from Bryn Mawr College, as well as both a master’s degree in educational administration and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of California, Los Angeles. On the weekends, Dr. B can be spotted spending time with her two daughters and prepping her camper for upcoming adventures.

Madison Bosurgi is beginning her third school year as a Lafayette assistant principal. She began her career at Lafayette as a third grade math and science teacher. Before that, she taught first grade for seven years in west Philadelphia. Ms. Bosurgi holds a bachelor’s of science degree in both elementary education and early childhood education, and a minor in psychology. She also has a master’s of education in school leadership. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her jack russell, Mikey, and traveling back home to New Jersey and Philly whenever she can.

Donna Beck is a third generation Washingtonian. She and her husband, Tom, have been married for 30 years and together have four sons and eight grandchildren. Donna came to Lafayette four years ago, after working with AARP for 13 years. She holds a BA in urban studies, and a BA in social welfare. Giving back is a legacy of Donna’s family and she truly has a passion for helping others. She has served in various capacities for many 501(c)3 organizations throughout the DC. area. Among her proudest achievement of service is the annual UCD Charity Golf Tournament at Andrews Air Force Base. Once a competitive swimmer, you can now find Donna swimming for relaxation spending precious moments with her grandchildren. Some of her other hobbies include cooking, children’s reading, and caring for her plants.

Laura Pajor is a Pre-K teacher, a children’s book aficionado, and former “bad speller.” Although she moved to several states during her childhood, she thinks of North Carolina as home. Last summer she climbed to the top of a mountain in Maine and enjoyed the beautiful scenery: trees, lakes, and the Canadian border. An avid biker, Laura often spends her weekends biking with her sons.

Robert “Bobby” Johnson started teaching at Lafayette in 1983! He teaches Pre-K in Rainbow Base. Mr. Johnson was the first black male early childhood teacher to teach Pre-K. He has coached the boys and girls basketball teams and considers the Lafayette Bears one of his favorite teams. Outside of school, he enjoys detailing exotic cars (have you seen the car he drives to school!?), cooking out with friends and family, reading, biking and playing basketball. He attended St. Augustine’s University and Howard University. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Dina has been teaching at Lafayette for more than 20 years. She spent 17 as a Kindergarten teacher and the years since as a Pre-K teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Skidmore College and a master’s in early childhood special education from George Mason University. She lives in Silver Spring with her son, her parents folks, some dogs, and an occasional turtle.

She studied at the University of the Philippines (where she performed with one of the top Filipino choirs) and later George Mason University. T Asha Elizabeth Abraham (yes, there is a “T” before her name, it’s a family thing) is originally from southern California and currently lives in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington DC. Asha is a graduate of the University of California. She recently traveled to New Orleans, Dubai, Nepal, and seven states in India. When not teaching, Asha enjoys planning parties, planning trips, and visiting new restaurants. She has been to six of the seven continents and has co-piloted a plane twice! She is also very crafty and can make anything out of paper.

Lakeisha Brown was born in Monterey, CA, but grew up in the very small town of Oxford, PA where there were only three traffic lights. Lakeisha went to Albright College in Reading, PA and currently lives in Hyattsville, MD. She loves her favorite music group, TLC and got to see them in concert. She even went backstage to meet them and almost lost her mind, she was so excited! Lakeisha’s favorite sports team is any team LeBron James is playing for. She does not like to wear white below the waist or anything that is all white, so much so that she wore a black dress to an all white party. Lakeisha has not seen a scary movie since she was a child. She has lived and taught in South Africa, China, Malaysia, and South Korea.

Joe Martin grew up with an identical twin brother named Brock in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After graduating from the University of Mary Washington with a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in elementary education, Joe moved to D.C. and completely fell in love with its charm. He now lives in Dupont Circle with his partner, Will, and their two cats, Roscoe and Miles. In his spare time, Joe likes to read, swim, collect pretty flowers, and dance to happy music.

Rani Haigler is originally from Washington, DC and currently resides in Laurel, Maryland. Rani married her high school sweetheart who grew up across the street from her and they have two fabulous sons. Both kids are now in college! She went to Syracuse University for her undergraduate degree when she was 16 years old, majoring in social work. Rani got her master’s degree from Howard University. When she is not teaching, Rani enjoys photography. She is also a big sports fan and can be found rooting for the Redskins, Wizards, Nationals, Capitals, the Hoyas (a true DC native at heart!) and her sons’ college football team at William & Mary and lacrosse team at University of Illinois.

Lindsay Field grew up in Washington, DC and recently moved back to our nation’s capital after teaching in New Orleans for four years. She completed her undergraduate degree at Penn State and received her Master’s in education from Johns Hopkins. While living in New Orleans, Lindsay fully embraced the culture of the city and even participated in a Mardi Gras parade. Keisha Harris was born in Washington, DC. She lived briefly in Rochester, NY during middle school and went to boarding school in Culver, IN for high school. Keisha attended Xavier University of Louisiana and started her master’s degree at George Washington University.  After college, Keisha spent two years with City Year in Washington, DC. and fell in love with teaching and being in the classroom.  After teaching Pre-K for seven years, she was ready for a change and came to Lafayette to teach Kindergarten. Erin de Jonckheere is a first grade teacher, Girls on the Run coach, and sommelier in training. She is a proud Michigander (Go Blue!); however, grew up in Brazil and Venezuela. Her first language was Portuguese. Erin is a graduate of Indiana University. When she is not teaching, Erin enjoys running, snuggling with her kitty, and planning her upcoming wedding! She may have a slight obsession with pineapples too!

Alycia Hallock is a first grade teacher and Girls on the Run Coach. She is from College Park, MD and is a graduate of the University of Maryland. Alycia can beat anyone in Harry Potter trivia (watch out Ms. Ritchie!). In her free time, she enjoys listening to 90’s pop music and going to concerts. A former kickboxer, Alycia still enjoys time in the gym.

Shelitia is originally from Spanish Town, Jamaica by way of Miami, Florida. Palm trees, beaches, mangoes, and a passport are a few of Shelitia’s favorite things. Shelitia earned her undergradate degree at Spelman College, studying economics. After some time working in finance, Shelitia rediscovered her love for learning and is inspired to share this growth mindset with her students. Shelitia attended Lesley University to complete masters’ degrees in both Special Education and Elementary Education to bring this goal to fruition. Besides teaching children how to read, Shelitia also enjoys painting, reading, and music. Her students all know of her love of dark chocolate and making up songs. Shelitia will certainly be in tune with her Lafayette first graders!

Kelly Paton has been teaching First Grade at Lafayette since 2018. Prior to Lafayette, Ms. Paton taught for two years in a different DCPS school. Ms. Paton graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Elementary Education and received her masters in Early Childhood from the Relay Graduate School of Education. Ms. Paton is originally from San Francisco, California, but made the move to DC in 2016. Outside of teaching, Ms. Paton loves spending time with her 3 sisters, 1 brother, and 6 nieces and nephews. She also loves indoor cycling, traveling the world, and trying new coffee shops!

Emily Glassman is a first grade teacher, joining the Lafayette team with six years experience teaching first grade in DCPS and DC Public Charter Schools. Emily grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY before attending St Michael’s College in Burlington, VT, where she graduated with a degree in political science and Spanish. Emily also holds a Master’s in education from American University. She now lives in Silver Spring, MD with her husband and their dog, Gilmore and kitten, Recess. Steven King is a second grade teacher and the Drama Club Coordinator. Steven is from Michigan where he grew up with his seven sisters and three brothers. Recently, he drove over 3,000 miles to explore the U.S. and visit family. He currently lives in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of D.C. – you can often see him going for a run along Connecticut Avenue. Our resident car mechanic, Steven once worked at a GM factory building Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Cadillacs. He is a music aficionado, which is evident during drama club performances.

Annie Campbell is a native Washingtonian. After graduating from Elon University in North Carolina, she taught kindergarten for three years before returning to DC. She has spent that last six years at Lafayette teaching fifth grade English language arts and social studies. She is excited for her next adventure on the second grade team! Ms. Campbell will complete her master’s degree in education this summer at Elon University with a concentration in gifted education.

Maura Barry is very excited to join the second grade team at Lafayette  this year. Although Maura grew up in Basking Ridge, NJ she has been teaching for the past five years in Chicago, IL. Maura is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and also a children’s yoga teacher. Maura’s favorite part about teaching is learning along with her students and reading fun picture books; her favorite book is called The Good Egg. When Maura is not teaching she loves spending time at the Jersey shore with her family and taking fun workout classes.

Otis Burnett is from beautiful island of Jamaica where he taught second and third grades for six years.  He moved to North Carolina in 2014 as a part of Participate (formally Visiting International Faculty) and taught first grade there for five years. Otis is an alumni of the University of the West Indies where he received a BA in literacy studies and elementary education and a master’s degree in educational administration. In his free time, Otis loves shopping at the mall, listening to music (soca and reggae), eating at different restaurants and visiting museums. He also loves to travel – New York is his favorite city and he desires to unearth the beauty of Japan and Singapore.

Emma Dodson is a second grade teacher at Lafayette. Previously, she has taught special education and kindergarten in both DC and North Carolina. Emma grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey and always cheers on Philadelphia sports teams. Outside of school, she enjoys spending quality time with her dog, cooking, running, yoga, and taking advantage of everything DC has to offer. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Catholic University and will complete her Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins University in Spring 2020.

Donna is a native of Louisiana and graduate of Louisiana Tech University. In fact, she was crowned Little Miss Dubach at her home town’s famed Chicken Festival. Despite growing up in rural Louisiana, Donna has never been camping and is happy to never attempt it. She loves spicy foods and is known to eat jalapenos with every meal (even breakfast). On the weekends, Donna enjoys eating out, wine tasting, swimming with dolphins, and perusing the racks for good deals.

Dona Culver is a self-described Washingtonian: born at Howard University Hospital, a graduate of Howard University, and a life-time resident of the District. She has taught nearly every grade at Lafayette in her 20+ year tenure here. On the weekends, she’s sleeping late and eating out–relaxation is the name of the game. Despite her calm demeanor, Dona is always up for an adventure. She’s swam with the sharks, harpooned her own fish dinner, and braved the Las Vegas heat in the dead of summer.

Uchenna Redding, originally of Stone Mountain, GA has long been waiting to start helping students discover their greatness. Ms. Redding moved to Washington, DC in 2012 to attend Howard University. She is a recent 2019 graduate of the School of Education at Howard with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Redding is very excited to start the year in 4th grade ELA and has many ideas for student achievement and learning. She has a passion for outings( i.e. parks, zoo, hiking), loves music and is very crafty (she makes her own soaps from scratch). She is an avid learner and loves to try new things.  This year her goal is to continue her students’ love of learning and guide her students’ through new experiences and new texts.

Meg Ratliff is a fourth grade teacher and one of the cross country coaches. She is a graduate of the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. A former resident of the garden state, Meg spends her summers at the shore. This summer she took a break from basking in the sun to stalk/visit Chip and Joanna Gaines at their Waco, Texas shop called Magnolia Market. She currently lives in the Van Ness neighborhood of DC and can be spotted on her walk to Lafayette. On the weekends, Meg enjoys running and brunching, preferably with friends and/or her beagle Lana. At exactly 5 ft tall, was hoping to not be mistaken for a leprechaun while exploring the Emerald Isle during last spring break.

Kyrissa was born and raised in Prince George’s County, MD. She attended Elizabeth Seton High School, before moving to North Carolina for college. She is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, and began her teaching career in Greensboro, NC. In 2014, Kyrissa returned to Maryland and joined the DCPS family. In her spare time she enjoys being with family, traveling, and watching football (Go Steelers!!).

Sheena Styles is a D.C. native who is honored to be teaching students in her home city. She is a graduate of Messiah College (go Falcons!) where she originally studied theater. These days, Sheena keeps her performance skills sharp, waiting for the day she’ll receive an audition invitation to become the sixth member of the Spice Girls and/or *NSYNC. Ann Lamers is is originally from Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Go Badgers!). On the weekends she enjoys walking or running near the monuments. This summer she was able to hike Mount Rogers, the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Ann enjoys volunteering at the National Center for Children and Families; she does so at least once per month. Fun fact: Ann doesn’t know her real age or birth date, but it doesn’t stop her from celebrating.

Rosemary Peters teaches ELA on the 5th grade team. Last year, she was a special education team as a resource/inclusion teacher at Lafayette. Ms. Peters graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii with a bachelors of science and dual certification in elementary and special education. She relocated to D.C. from Hawaii in 2018. In Hawaii, Ms. Peters taught for five years as a fulltime teacher and worked for Hawaii’s department of education for 16 years. She has experience as a special education teacher in a therapeutic medical setting for grades K-6, as a 6th grade resource special education teacher, and as a general education teacher in an inclusion setting in both 5th and 6th grades. Ms. Peters enjoys spending time with her husband of 13 years and her five kids. She also loves watching her children participate in extracurricular activities.

David Gregal teaches fifth grade math. He is from the DC area and attended Penn State University. Prior to becoming a teacher, he worked at National Geographic as a cartographer. Outside of school, David draws illustrations for a children’s art magazine, Root and Star. He can also be found reading Dune to one (or all three) of his boys.

She enjoys crocheting, singing, and goofing around with her two daughters. Kerry is originally from Elmira, New York; she now lives in the Petworth neighborhood of DC with her family. Kerry is a graduate of Union College, American University, and George Washington University.

Lauren Di Renzo teaches fifth grade. She grew up locally in Bethesda and is a graduate of Millersville University in Pennsylvania. She has been teaching for 17 years and (before kids) enjoyed playing tennis regularly. Now she tries to watch the major tournaments whenever possible. She even high-fived Andre Agassi once – her favorite player! These days when not in school, she spends all her time with her two, young daughters. Mrs. Di Renzo looks forward to another year of teaching math and science at Lafayette!

Jared Catapano moved to the DC area seven years ago to attend graduate school at Trinity University. A New Jersey native, Jared spends much of his free time writing; several of his poems are published in Trillium and Trinity Review, literary magazines produced by his alma maters. Known by students for the song of the day, his love of music developed while attending and performing in a world music festival in Japan.

Dr. Kenneth Brown, the manager of specialized instruction, received his bachelor’s in special education and master’s in educational administration. He also received his Ph.D. in curriculum studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He previously served as a special education coordinator for two years. Prior to that, he worked as a special education teacher for several years, instructing students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. Dr. Brown enjoys working out. He is a huge NBA fan with the Chicago Bulls being his favorite team.

Christine Popadich, a new SLS grades 4-5 teacher, graduated from Grove City College in 2006 with a degree in psychology. She worked as a special education teacher in Massachusetts as she earned a Master’s in education from Simmons College in Boston. Christine moved to the DMV in 2009 to work at Alice Deal Middle school as a sixth grade inclusion teacher before going to Murch Elementary School to teach and lead in the autism classrooms. In 2015, she earned a certificate in behavioral intervention and in 2016 she earned her board certification as a behavior analyst. Mrs. Popadich enjoys spending time with her family, husband, three kids and a dog. She loves being out doors hiking and swimming–and especially a good cup of coffee.

Holly Nantais is a special education teacher and Girls on the Run coach. She lives in Rockville, Maryland and can often be seen biking to school. Holly regularly participates in adventure races clad in self-designed costumes. She’s a skilled home-renovator and can frame and dry-wall entire rooms. In her youth, she was in all the bands (the German marching band, jazz ensemble, and concert band) because she can play all the saxophones (alto, soprano, baritone, and tenor). Holly worked as a Disney World cast member for many years.

Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, Jasmine now resides in Brightwood with her lovely English bulldog, Turbo.  Jasmine earned her BS (marketing) and MS (sports marketing) from Delaware State. She also obtained her Masters’ degrees in elementary education and special education from Lesley University.  Jasmine is passionate about providing comprehensive literacy instruction to struggling readers and is a proud member of the DC Reading Clinic. A former collegiate athlete in track and field as well as volleyball, Jasmine remains involved in athletics by officiating, coaching, and playing a variety of sports. In her spare time, she competes in triathlons, sings karaoke, and plays with Turbo. Jasmine is looking forward to a winning year at Lafayette!

Sequins Gooding hails from Newark, NJ and has an undergraduate degree in secondary education with a concentration in earth science. In her junior year of college she fell in love with her “intro to the exceptional child” course and swiftly changed directions in graduate school to earn a master’s degree in students with severe and multiple disabilities, including deafblindness. Carmen Rincon, the Spanish teacher working with grades 1-5, is a graduate of Salamanca University and a native of Spain. On the weekends Carmen dabbles in acrylic painting and likes testing out new recipes. She also loves going to the movies and getting crafty with her three sons. During fútbol season, Carmen cheers for Real Madrid with a pitcher (or two) of sangria, which all her friends agree is the best. This summer she went on a whirlwind tour of her home country, visiting four different cities in just three days.

Richard Foley, one of our maravilloso Spanish teachers, grew up in southern Spain. He is number six in a family of nine brothers and sisters. He lived in Florida while he was going to school, graduating from the University of West Florida in Pensacola. He went on to get his Master’s degree at American University in Washington, DC. He enjoys reading whenever his kids let him, and watching his favorite sports teams on TV- Real Madrid and the Dallas Cowboys. He is the proud dad of Maria and Mario.

Tianna Jackson is a native of New York City and moved to Washington, DC in 2014 to pursue higher education. Ms. Jackson received her bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in classical voice in May, 2018 from Howard University. Ms. Jackson completed her student teaching at John Eaton Elementary School, teaching grades Pre-5 general music and choir. Ms. Jackson loves singing with the International Howard Gospel Choir in her spare time. She enjoys traveling, exploring the world of photography and cooking her favorite Caribbean dishes. She is passionate about instilling the love of music in DC’s children.

Maddie Howes is one of our uh-mazing PE teachers working with grades 1-5. She and Margie McClure are teaching kids how to kayak, draw a bow, ride a bike, and develop lifetime fitness goals. She is also one of the cross country coaches; she ran her first half-marathon this fall. A native of Long Island, NY and graduate of SUNY Cortland, Maddie currently resides in Alexandria, VA and braves I-495 each day. In her spare time, Maddie sings Broadway tunes for koala bears (they find it soothing).

Margie McClure is a physical education teacher working with grades 1-5. She has been working at Lafayette for decades and is even an alumna of the school. Margie was born in Southern California. She and her family now live outside of Baltimore. When not teaching (or commuting) Margie plays tennis and golf, and sometimes hustles hipsters who think they can beat her in a match of cornhole. Recently, Margie was honored by the USA Rugby Association, as she played in the first US Women’s International Match. She also traveled to Ireland to wish the current US Women’s Olympic Rugby team luck as they headed off to the Word Cup.

Laurie McLaughlin Ward sparks creativity in students in grades 1-5 each day during art. She is from the DC area and lives only a stone’s throw from where she grew up. She is a graduate of George Mason University’s Initiatives in Educational Transformation program (with Andrea Perll). When not teaching or mounting artwork, she enjoys good food, good wine, and good company. She grew up in a house of musicians and artists in the Vietnam War protest hippy generation. She’s been living with and loving her husband for almost 43 years. She can often be found dancing, gardening, and creating pottery in the Glen Echo pottery yurts.

Rachel Leese, Lafayette’s librarian, manages the library and teaches students in grades PK-5 how to access the school’s vast collection. Rachel is a native of Pennsylvania and alumna of Pennsylvania State University and University of Pittsburgh. Her visits home include spending time with her family’s sheep. When she is not at Lafayette, she is a reader, hiker, biker, and singer. Rachel is our resident craftsman; she has built several houses, hiking structures, and worked on multiple renovations. Last summer, she experimented with fermentation when brewing kombucha (fermented tea) for her sister.

Andrea Perll, our peppy Pre-K and Kindergarten art, music, and PE teacher, grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut. She is a graduate of U Conn (go Huskies!) and George Mason University. Andrea has lived in Israel and Boston, and now resides in Silver Spring, MD. When not entertaining the little ones in our school, she enjoys hiking, checking out interesting exhibits at museums, creating photo scrapbooks, and shopping. Andrea is also a huge fan of traveling and taking photographs of her travels. Some of her favorite places she’s visited include Costa Rica, Switzerland, Petra, and Greece.

Long-time peace teacher, Linda Ryden, is the creator of the Peace of Mind curriculum which integrates mindfulness with conflict resolution, neuroscience, and social emotional learning. Linda teaches grades 1-5 and also leads Peace Club, Kaleidoscope Kids and Mindful Mentors. Linda has published four children’s books and has a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing peace education to children in Washington, DC and around the world. Linda lives with her husband and dog in DC where she raised her two kids who are both Lafayette graduates. When Linda isn’t teaching, she is playing music in her band and singing in a choir.

Erin Duchinsky is a math specialist working with grades 1-5 and mathletes of all ages. She is originally from Pennsylvania and attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut before moving to the DC area. She lives in Petworth with her family, one member of which is a great dane named Maude. She enjoys puzzles of all kinds: logic, jigsaw, and crossword. Erin also enjoys listening to and talking about music; she hosted a radio show in college and can often be found strumming a guitar.

Reading Specialist Kathy Echave is the proud mother of two accomplished sons who both attended Lafayette. She grew up in Indiana and moved east where she taught high school English and journalism in Englewood, NJ.  She has lived in the Chevy Chase, D.C. neighborhood for 30 years. Kathy is a graduate of Indiana State University and Wroxton College (England). When not working she spends time with her two grandchildren. She enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, and writing. She has traveled to many ‘off-the-beaten-path’ places like Iceland, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Candie Copeland is originally from Maryland and currently lives in Chevy Chase, MD with her family. Candie is a proud graduate of Howard University. She wanted to pursue a career as a nurse; however, her stomach had other plans – eating! Candie is currently making her way through the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. This summer she took her oldest child to college then basked on the beaches (and ate in the Michelin starred restaurants) of México. Candie also enjoys attending concerts; she has seen Prince up close and personal multiple times (front row seats!!).

Edie Stanton is a math specialist that works with students in grades 1-5. Her favorite part of the week is math team on Friday mornings where students discuss challenging math problems. She is from the Chevy Chase, MD area and currently resides there with her family. Edie attended Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. When not at school, Edie enjoys hanging out at the beach with her wife and daughters. She also loves playing games and puzzles.

Megan Tribble earned her Master’s degree in elementary education from University of Pennsylvania. She is currently working on a master’s in reading from UVA and has earned certificates from the reading and writing project at Columbia University. She just moved back to the DC area from Brooklyn, New York. She previously taught in Fairfax County Public Schools for six years and New York City Schools for one year. Jillian Diesner is our school counselor and Pre-K-Kindergarten peace teacher. She is originally from Florida and is a graduate of the University of Florida. After leaving Florida, Jillian lived in Italy and still loves everything Italian. In her spare time she enjoys goofing around with her family by perusing thrift stores and making sock puppets. Last summer she visited Machu Picchu in Peru with her family. Despite the event being officially cancelled, Jillian ran in the first D.C. marathon in 2002.

Rashida Mosby is our school counselor and a founding member of our Girls of Color group. She is a DC native, a Redskins fanatic and graduate of Howard University. She is the proud owner of many a Holiday Barbie which she arranges (still boxed) to populate a holiday village each year. Rashida loves checking out new spots in the District and frequently attends live music events. This summer she attended an Equity in Education Conference and got to spend time relaxing on the beaches of Long Beach City. A novice astronomer, Rashida loves to star gaze and learn about the awe inspiring events of our universe.

Sophia Carré is Lafayette’s clinical social worker and resident hallway dancer. She enjoys reading, traveling, and coloring books (they’re so soothing). She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and Howard University. Sophia is from New York City, but came to Maryland so she could be closer to Assateague Island; there is nothing better than wild horses on the beach. Her favorite song is, “I’m a survivor;” she wears her survivor ribbons proudly. Making costumes for and attending Comic-Con are the highlight of her year.

Ashlee Adams is our school psychologist. She is originally from Albany, NY and is a graduate of the Universities of Buffalo and Albany. She lives in Alexandria, VA so she can practice patience and understanding each morning on the 495. This summer she traveled to Canada, the Dominican Republic, and went on a Caribbean cruise. In her spare time she enjoying baking; Ashlee recently started a chocolate truffle business called Truff Love. The former captain of her alma mater’s step team, Ashlee has no need for coffee – she is naturally peppy.

Beth Schneider has been the speech-language pathologist at Lafayette since 2012.  After growing up in New York, she went to Tufts University in Boston where she earned her B.S. in computer science.  After realizing she missed working with kids, she pursued her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Emerson College. Beth has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, early intervention and outpatient clinics, but her true passion is working with kids in their school environment because it allows her to see the needs and successes of her students on a daily basis. When not at Lafayette, Beth can be found exploring DC with her two girls, Hannah and Naomi, her husband and her dog, Lenny.

Erin Ayers is a clinical social worker at Lafayette. Erin is originally from Long Island, New York. She is a graduate of Fairfield University and New York University (MSW). She has been a social worker in the DMV for the last 10 years. Erin has experience working in nonpublic day schools, charter schools, and with DCPS. Erin enjoys running with her two children, reading and going to the beach. This past summer, Erin enjoyed teaching her daughter to swim, story time at the library with her son and puppy training the newest addition to the Ayers family, an adorable Goldendoodle.

Randi Stone recently moved to Washington DC with her family and is excited to put down roots here! She is originally from Chicago where she also began her teaching career. Randi taught Pre K, first, and second grades while working on her master’s degree in early childhood education. She served as a community organizer in the Chicago Public Schools and went on to earn a degree in school leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She spent two years as the director of instruction at a small school in Boston where she nurtured her love of early literacy and project-based learning. In her spare time she runs, reads, and enjoys new restaurants.

Jan Goedeke is an instructional coach in mathematics and part-time professional learning consultant for math solutions. She has 18 years of experience in education, as an elementary classroom teacher for Kindergarten, third and fifth grades, and as an instructional coach for Pre-K through sixth grade teachers. Prior to her mid-career transition into the field of education, Ms. Goedeke worked as a publicist and story editor in the film industry. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she majored in film, a master’s degree in fine arts from Vermont College, and in 2008, she earned a master’s degree in school leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In her spare time Ms. Goedeke goes to the movies as much as possible. She likes to make short films—especially films about how children learn mathematics—and she still hopes to someday write a short story someone will want to publish.

Jaime Howell is in his eighth year as a custodian at Lafayette. A native of Panama and graduate of Tomas Gaviel Dukes, these days he calls Laurel, Maryland home. Jaime is our resident handy-man; on the weekends you’ll find him working on home improvement projects or fixing up cars. When he’s not knee-deep in fix-it projects, he’s enjoys watching Westerns and cheering on the LA Lakers.

He is originally from DC and is a graduate of the University of DC.  Glenn loves going to the movies and eating out—he has eaten at nearly every restaurant in his hometown of Bowie. Outside of work, when he is not watching the Redskins, Glenn works as a birthday party clown, specializing in balloon animals. His love of animals does not end there; his menagerie houses 17 exotic pets, some of which are banned in several states.
