Meet the Principal

Carrie Broquard, known as Dr. B to Lafayette students, has led Lafayette as its principal since 2014. Carrie Broquard began her career in education as a science teacher in Los Angeles, California. Within the Los Angeles Unified School District, Dr. B later served as a chemistry teacher, gifted and talented education coordinator, and an assistant principal. In 2008, she relocated to Normal, IL where she has served as an assistant principal, an emotional - disabilities coordinator, and a clinical assistant professor in educational administration. Dr. B holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in education from Bryn Mawr College, as well as both a master’s degree in educational administration and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of California, Los Angeles. On the weekends, Dr. B can be spotted spending time with her two daughters and prepping her camper for upcoming adventures.

The Bear Fund is the Lafayette HSA’s annual fundraiser that supports the Peace program, teacher supplies, scholarships, and so much more (see the HSA’s budget here). We help address some school costs so Dr. B can focus the bulk of her budget on teachers and student learning.

SEEKING LAFAYETTE GREETERS FOR SEPTEMBER 15!

In an effort to community build and make all Lafayette families feel welcome and valued, the HSA is running the Lafayette Hello program again this year.

The first step of the Lafayette Hello is to simply smile and say hello to each other! To kick off the program, we are looking for Lafayette Greeter volunteers to join us on Friday, September 15 to help greet fellow parents and students during morning line-up.

Back to School Night is in person and an adults only event. Come get to know your teachers, room parents, and the HSA. It’s also a great night to walk up to school, given the number of families attending!

Dates/Grades:

Wednesday September 6th:
PreK, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 5th grade

Thursday September 7th:
Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade

Times:

6:00 pm – 6:40 pm– Session 1 in classrooms

6:45 pm – 7:25 pm – Session 2 in classrooms

REMEMBER TO PAY YOUR CLASS ACTIVITY FEE: The class activity fee pays for costs associated with field trips (buses, etc), field day t-shirts and end-of-year parties.

SIGN UP FOR THE TUESDAY BULLETIN: Get weekly Lafayette news, events and info from Dr. B and the HSA. This is the primary method for receiving important school info for parents and students.

Calling all 4th Grade parents! The morning drop-o

Calling all 4th Grade parents!

The morning drop-off line is staffed by Lafayette parents, and each month we ask parents from a specific grade to volunteer. The drop-off line for September is assigned to 4th grade and will begin on Tuesday, September 5th.

For those of you not familiar with this volunteer opportunity, it involves showing up at 8:20am at the Northampton St entrance of school, helping the kids out of the cars as quickly as possible, then sending the cars on their way. Kids should only exit the cars on the side closest to the school. It ends when the school doors close at 8:40am. The line happens rain or shine. There will be a Lafayette teacher assigned to the line each day as well and they can answer any questions you have.

It's a really easy way to volunteer your time and it provides a valuable service for the school. Please consider signing up for a few slots this month via the link below so that we can ensure full coverage. Ideally we'd have four volunteers per day, but look for those slots that have two or less volunteers.
