Celebrate MLK Day with Lafayette Gives Back

Lafayette Gives Back is looking forward to a joyful and fulfilling 2024 with opportunities to contribute and serve.  Looking ahead to this weekend, the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy and is designated an official day of service.  Here are some ideas for celebrating and contributing in honor of his legacy.  
 
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Peace Walk Monday Jan. 15, 10-2pm. The Peace Walk is coordinated by the Coalition for Peace, a group of individuals and non-profits dedicated to peace and positivity for the Washington DC metropolitan communities. 
 
It Starts With Me! A Beyond the Book Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.  Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with musical performers, spoken word artists and activities at the MLK library. Monday Jan. 15, 1-4pm.
 
Join Urban Adventure Squad on Monday, Jan. 15, 10am to noon, to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King with a litter cleanup in Rock Creek Park! Learn about the history of the Joaquin Miller cabin and Milkhouse Ford while picking up trash and microplastics that could harm the flora and fauna of the park:

This is a free event. We’ll provide snacks, hand warmers, gloves, trash bags, and trash grabbers.
All children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
