New Principal Announcement – Welcome Principal Prall!

May 9, 2024
Dear Parents and Families of Lafayette Elementary School,

As we look to close out another remarkable school year at DC Public Schools (DCPS) and turn our focus toward School Year 2024-2025, I am excited to announce that Katie (Mustian) Prall has been selected as the next principal of Lafayette Elementary School! I want to thank Lafayette’s parents, families, and community members who participated in this process, giving their time and attention and providing compelling feedback on the selection of our new school leader.

Katie Prall joined DCPS in 2015 and served as an elementary school teacher at Ross Elementary School and Bruce Monroe at Park View Elementary before transitioning to work as a Community Action Team member with the DCPS Office of Family and Public Engagement. Before joining DCPS, Ms. Prall taught at the Vanderbilt demonstration school in Abu Dhabi, an experience that broadened her horizons and deepened her love for traveling.

In 2020, Ms. Prall became Hyde-Addison Elementary School’s Assistant Principal. At Hyde-Addison, she led the instructional and operations teams in implementing key initiatives that have resulted in high levels of family engagement, an inclusive and joyful school culture, and assessment results reflective of the school’s rigor. In 2022, the DC Public Education Fund recognized this work by awarding Hyde- Addison with the Building Bridges for Students and Families award. Ms. Prall is committed to creating sustainable change in our schools and systems to ensure equitable and excellent outcomes for our students.

Ms. Prall holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Child Studies from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Education Policy and Leadership from Stanford University.

I am confident that the next phase of excellence at Lafayette will lead to the continued development and success of our scholars under the leadership of Principal Prall. I look forward to supporting her and the entire Lafayette community in preparation for next school year. If you have any questions, please email me at .

Sincerely,

Andria Caruthers
